The Mad Festival with its peculiar parade is one of the most interesting and amusing events in Mexico and also one of the many reasons to visit the city of San Miguel de Allende. According to some, San Miguel has more festivals during the year to any destination in Mexico, and one of the most challenged is the Mad’s day.

The Festival Mads Parade, is a tour that starts from the Church of San Antonio, to continue through the streets Zapatero, Hernandez Macias, Insurgentes, Aparicio, San Francisco Nunez dropping up to the Central Garden. This parade that makes people in the neighborhoods of San Miguel, as well as visitors, is sheathed in colorful costumes of animals, political, trasvestis, etc..

Takes place the first weekend after the day of San Antonio de Padua (June 17) each year. This festival has no religious background, as its real purpose is to celebrate so extravagant spring.

Participants are decorated with an amazing variety of costumes made from old clothes, cardboard boxes, paper Mache, wires, masking tape, and anything else at hand that will be useful. We represent caricatures of the moment as well as foreign characters, peasants and national and local celebrities.

You can also see many marching costumes inspired by popular movies such as Terminators or DART Vaders, Orcs lord of the rings, etc.. The political figures of the moment can not miss. Over the past parades have been costumes Vicente Fox, George Bush and Osama bin Laden, whom reresentan battles that sometimes border on sarcasm.

The transvestidos are traditional at the festival. Men dressed as women, and women dressed as men, all gathered on the Mad’s day. Ancianitas, young blond, stunning mulatto, nuns, geishas,… All models, men dressed as women San Miguel.
